Oliver Lemon is a Professor of AI at Heriot-Watt University, Director of the Interaction Lab, member of the Academic Board of the National Robotarium, and co-founder of Alana AI, a leading Scottish Conversational AI company. He was formerly a Research Fellow at Stanford and Edinburgh Universities and Visiting Scientist at NASA. Oliver is the co-author of over 200 publications which have pioneered the use of machine learning techniques for conversational AI and Human-Robot Interaction. He has led several national and international research projects involving industry partners such as PAL Robotics, BMW, and Orange Labs. He has led 2 teams to the finals of the Amazon Alexa Prize, and was the Chair of SIGDIAL 2022. His company Alana AI currently develops advanced visual and conversational AI solutions for the RNIB and the EC Horizon healthcare AI project RES-Q+.
