Artist and Assistant Professor at Northumbria University

Session: Encountering AI through Art

Dr. Paul Dolan is an artist living in Newcastle Upon Tyne and Assistant Professor at Northumbria University where he is part of the Cultural Negotiation of Science group (CNoS). His research is based around computer simulations and the environment. Using photography, game engines and VFX software, Dolan explores the life of digital images before and after the moment of consumption on screen - their production within energy-hungry industrial sites such as render farms, the time-consuming labour of visual effects artists, and the ultimate degradation of the hardware within which they are stored.
